METEORITES PAGE 24 GLORIETA MOUNTAIN Stony-iron, Pallasite For more than 15 years, meteorite hunter Steve Schoner made innumerable trips into the rugged terrain of Glorieta Mountain looking for the main mass of the queen of the pallasites. Having been personally encouraged by Dr. Harvey Nininger, Steve never gave up hope of finding this elusive dream. Then one day this dream came true! A full account of this amazing search and the find of this incredible meteorite can be found in the February 2001 issue of Meteorite, the international quarterly of meteorites and meteorite science. A photo of a full slice of Glorieta Mountain is featured on the cover of the same issue. Glorieta Mountain has a very high sulfide content and is not a member of the Main Group of pallasites. It is scientifically unique and chemically anomalous. The main mass of this stunning pallasite was carefully cut and polished to perfection. The amount of Glorieta Mountain is quite limited and few collectors will have the privilege of owning a slice. Far less Glorietta Mountain is available than many other pallasites; hence, once the existing slices are sold there is no mass from which to cut additional slices. These photos do not do justice to the specimens as this meteorite is difficult to photograph. The combination of olivine crystals set in the highly polished nickel-iron matrix and iron-sulfide veins is spectacular! It is our privilege to share these awesome slices with our customers. Here is one instance where we can say that you will never be sorry purchasing any one of these fine specimens. Beautiful partial slice, etched on reverse. Weight: 109.4 grams; price: SOLD
